The decision followed Orlando’s first-round exit in the Eastern Conference playoffs, where the Magic lost their series to the Detroit Pistons after holding a 3-1 lead. The collapse brought a sudden end to the team’s postseason run and prompted a coaching change.
Mosley had led the Magic through a multi-year stretch that included player development and a return to playoff competition, but the team’s inability to close out the series ultimately marked the end of his time on the bench.
