St. Bonaventure is finalizing a deal to hire Daemen University coach Mike MacDonald as the program’s next head men’s basketball coach, according to people familiar with the situation.
The Bonnies are moving toward a change at the top as they look to chart their next direction in the Atlantic 10. MacDonald, currently leading Daemen, is positioned to make the jump to St. Bonaventure if the agreement is completed.
What it means for St. Bonaventure
The potential hire would mark a notable transition for the Bonnies, who compete in one of the nation’s deeper mid-major leagues. Bringing in a coach from Daemen would represent a shift from the Division II level to the A-10, where St. Bonaventure faces annual matchups against established conference programs.
No official announcement has been made by the school, and the deal is not yet complete.
