Tennessee Tech has dismissed men’s basketball head coach John Pelphrey, ending his tenure after seven seasons.
The move comes after the Golden Eagles finished with their seventh straight losing season under Pelphrey and did not qualify for the Ohio Valley Conference tournament, a notable marker of the program’s struggles this year.
Seven-year run ends after another losing finish
Pelphrey’s final season followed a familiar pattern for Tennessee Tech, with the team again finishing below .500 and falling short of the OVC tournament field. The program’s inability to reach the conference postseason underscored a difficult campaign and capped a stretch in which the Golden Eagles recorded seven consecutive losing seasons.
Tennessee Tech will now turn to the process of identifying its next head coach after closing the season outside the conference tournament picture.
