Vanderbilt has extended the contract of men’s basketball coach Mark Byington after a historic start to his tenure in Nashville.
Byington became the first coach in program history to win 20 or more games in each of his first two seasons, a benchmark that helped prompt the school’s decision to secure his future with the program.
A milestone start
The extension follows back-to-back 20-win campaigns, a level of consistency that had not been achieved by any Vanderbilt coach in their first two years on the job. The accomplishment underscores the early results Byington has delivered since taking over the Commodores.
Vanderbilt did not announce additional details in the report beyond confirming the extension and citing the program’s historic win total standard reached under Byington.
